Dr Danielle Einstein

Adjunct Fellow, Macquarie University; Clinical Psychologist, independent practice; Author, The Einstein Report

Dr Danielle Einstein has worked as a clinical psychologist treating anxiety for nearly three decades. Along the way, she developed a groundbreaking theory of uncertainty and collaborated with organisations and psychologists to disseminate it globally. She was the first Australian clinical psychologist to call for school phone bans, drawing on her research with schools. As an Adjunct Fellow at Macquarie University, Dr Einstein focuses on how humans respond to anxiety, worry and uncertainty in the digital age. In 2024, she played a prominent national role in educating the Australian public about the harms of social media. Her expert opinion was widely quoted in the media, she was invited to speak at numerous official events, and she provided critical evidence to the Senate Inquiry. After legislation passed, she was formally acknowledged in Parliament for “living up to her name.” Her latest book, Raising Anxiety: Why Our Good Intentions Are Backfiring on Children and How to Fix It, co-authored with parenting expert Dr Judith Locke, builds on Jonathan Haidt’s work by setting out practical, everyday changes parents and educators can make to support healthier development. In 2025, Dr Einstein has been at the forefront of international thought leadership, debunking myths and meeting with doctors, educators and government advisers in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. She also published The Einstein Report to provide up-to-date guidance for schools, policymakers and parents.

Raising Anxiety

Why is anxiety increasing? Are our kind efforts inadvertently making it worse?

Clinical psychologists Dr Judith Locke and Dr Danielle Einstein believe so. They have combined forces to show how a perfect storm of today's popular approaches to caring for children, altered beliefs on how to support them, and easier access to technology is making children more anxious and less prepared to face typical tasks and experience the normal joys and satisfactions of life. More importantly they give you practical strategies to help your child face the day-to-day responsibilities in their life, handle the complexities of interacting with others, and positively use technology. They also include a new approach to managing worry which will help you and your child tame your anxiety. These techniques have helped thousands of families clinically and in talks for parents and teachers. Now they can help you too.
